To: All Affiliated Members

Attached please find that the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development’s latest National Agro-meteorological Committee (NAC) Advisory on the 2024 winter and spring seasons & Statement from Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction (CCDRR) (7 October 2024).

The NAC Advisory and CCDRR statement anticipates above-normal rainfall for the south-eastern coastal areas during spring and the central parts in early summer. Drier conditions are expected over most of the north-eastern half of the country for the entire forecast period. Temperatures are expected to be above-normal. The NAC Advisory and CCDRR statement further provides useful climatic information with respect to:

  • Current conditions
  • Conditions in provinces during August/September
  • Agricultural Markets
  • SADC Region
  • Monthly Climate Outlook
  • Suggested Strategies

It is recommended that the climate advisory should be disseminated widely. Users are advised to be on the look-out and act on the daily extreme weather warnings as well as the monthly advisory. Information sharing groups are encouraged especially among farming communities for sustainable development. In general, effective communication among all stakeholders in the sector will enhance effective implementation of risk reduction measures/early warning services. It is the responsibility of farmers to implement disaster risk measures.

For noting.
