AgriSA asks water and sanitation department for more transparency with respect to raw water charges In July and August 2024, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) held consultations on raw water tariffs for the upcoming 2025/26 financial year. On 15 August, AgriSA presented its views on proposed tariff increases for the irrigation sector. The current raw water tariff strategy, established in 2007, will be updated next year. While the proposed average increase of around 5% is not deemed excessive, AgriSA emphasises the need for transparency regarding tariff sources and budgeting processes. Read more.

AgriSA meets to consider proposed 2025/26 raw water tariff increases On 31 July, 2024, AgriSA’s Natural Resources Centre of Excellence management met with the South African Association of Water Users’ Associations (SAAFWUA) in Jacobsdal to prepare for the upcoming raw water tariff consultations in Pretoria. These annual consultations, conducted by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), address proposed increases in raw water tariffs and provide a platform for government engagement with the agricultural sector on water governance issues. Read more.
